I’ve outlined my thoughts in another post, but I think challenge can take place on QT. To my mind, putting the BNP into the ‘mainstream’ where their dreadful views are scrutinised and cross-examined, like any other party, by the public, interviewers or other politicians is the key. Just writing them off and trying to ignore them didn’t work – otherwise they wouldn’t have MEPs or a GLA member.

I agree with what you say, however – I don’t think Question Time is a forum where their views will be challenged. I think their views most definitely need challenging but QT is designed as an opportunity to politicians (and now “others”) to give us their opinions on various topic. Hardly any challenging is done.
