If the bus is to make up the time lost by being late it should be going supersonic about now. Scary thing is the driver seems to be trying. #

Merry Christmas

8:18pm, 22nd December 2009

As hinted at yesterday I’m taking a break from blogging for Christmas. My last ‘official’ bit of council work for the year was last night (a meeting that finished at 11:30pm!) and while I’ll be using the Christmas break to keep on top of things and hopefully clear away a few loose ends I’m [...]

Crime briefing, 10 – 15 December

4:16pm, 21st December 2009

The map below details crimes reported in Wandsworth between 10 – 15 December and will (probably) be the last crime briefing for 2009.
This isn’t a full week, but the amount of yellow tags denoting burglaries is worrying. With lots of presents sitting under trees it’s a great time burglars to get their hands on [...]

Wandsworth’s Learning Bus

3:44pm, 21st December 2009

I spent most of this morning on what I would call the inaugural tour of the Wandsworth Learning Bus.
The bus, which starts work right after New Year is run by Wandsworth (with funding from the Transformation Fund) and will be visiting 8 locations in the borough offering taster sessions for adult learners. The bus [...]

I don't think MiniMe likes Mondays. That, or he doesn't want me to like them. #

Email volume has definitely dropped, has Christmas started? #
Love the Fabien Society idea: basically, put everyone on benefits, then we will all be one happy [...]

Weekly wrap-up, 18 December

4:22pm, 18th December 2009

Things are getting quieter as we get close to Christmas. While we don’t have a ‘recess’ like Parliament (since we don’t sit, but meet every six weeks or so) the council carries on, there are no formal meetings over the Christmas period.
That’s not to say we do nothing. Obviously all the council staff have [...]

JSA claims drop in Wandsworth

4:02pm, 18th December 2009

Earlier this week I did a little analysis on the number of Jobseekers Allowance claims in Wandsworth and pointed out that while claims seemed to have plateaued nationally the trend was still upwards in Wandsworth. This week saw a drop of 172 claims (or 2.5%) in Wandsworth that perhaps gives some hope we aren’t going [...]

CCTV. Revisited.

2:49pm, 18th December 2009

Once again the issue of CCTV has raised it’s head. This time it is as a result of a ‘Big Brother Watch’ press release that, I believe, totally misses the real point.
I’m afraid I don’t have a lot of sympathy for BBW (and don’t put that into Google at work). They are an offshoot [...]

Before the snow and ice

4:12pm, 17th December 2009

Last February I wrote a few posts about how Wandsworth had dealt with the snowfall. They seemed (surprisingly to me) well received and, as the country braces for some more cold weather I thought it might be worth repeating what happened, and what will happen again.
Wandsworth dealt with an abnormal snowfall admirably. At a time [...]

The pointless exercise of stop and search

9:47am, 16th December 2009

I’ve touched on police powers to stop and search a couple of times in the past. Once when I was subject to a stop – but not a search – around a year ago (although I posted about it some months later, prompted by section 76 of the Counter Terrorism Act coming into force) and [...]
