About
I'm a councillor in the London Borough of Wandsworth; this blog mainly covers that, sometimes general politics and policy and occasionally anything else that takes my fancy.

Battersea Buzz
The response after the disorder in Clapham Junction has been amazing. But one thing that is starting to become clear is that there isn’t quite the focal point that last Tuesday’s cleanup had. On Tuesday it was obvious, the streets needed cleaning. But now it’s less obvious. So people are still itching to ‘do something’

Shaftesbury Park Estate: The True Story
For some time my to do list has included ‘Write a Wikipedia article about the Shaftesbury Park Estate’. I’ll freely confess that it was never at the top of the list, and it was always one of those things I wanted to do one day when I had time. That day that never really comes.

Wandsworth Conservative manifesto
Putting this video on here isn’t being a creep like it was with the other two, because I’m in it. It means I’m being egotistical. But it also gives me a chance to highlight the Wandsworth Conservative manifesto which I am, obviously, standing under in this election. On of the things that strikes me about

A safer Northcote Road
One of the things I think we do well in Wandsworth is enabling people to take responsibility for their own lives. The flagship of this is the low council tax, meaning people keep as much of their own money as possible. But I’m rather pleased with the contributions Wandsworth’s community safety team offer. Neighbourhood Watch

Support Battersea Summer Scheme at Waitrose
I’ve no idea how many people who read this blog shop at Waitrose on St John’s Hill in Clapham Junction, but if you do you will know about their Community Matters scheme. Essentially each month, the store nominates three local charities and they each receive a share of £1,000 in proportion to the green tokens

The Big Lunch in Shaftesbury Park?
Many of you will have seen the adverts for The Big Lunch. The idea is that neighbours all contribute towards a communal lunch and get together to eat it and get to know one another better. Some of you will have recognised the location for the adverts is in the Shaftesbury Park Estate. A little

Last night’s BATCA Open Forum
Last night’s Open Forum organised by the Balham and Tooting Community Association was an interesting and, I think, useful event. It was fairly well attending (I’m hopeless at judging numbers, but I’m guessing at least 50 or 60 people) and there were some good questions and useful points made. Perhaps unsurprisingly a lot of the

Balham and Tooting Community Association Open Forum
I’m representing the council at the Balham and Tooting Community Association Open Forum tonight. The meeting is being held at St Augustine’s Church Hall, Broadwater Road, SW17 0EF at 7.30pm and is scheduled to last for two hours. It’s a large panel – along with me are Cheif Superintendant Stewart Low, the Wandsworth Borough Commander,

What do you want from this blog
Over the past few months I’ve been developing this blog as a way to communicate with residents, to let you know what I am thinking, what I’m doing on your behalf, and to highlight issues in which you might be interested. But now I want to ask, what do you want from this blog and

A last post about Monday’s snow (?)
I can’t promise this will be a last word about the snow. The council is continuing to get through an astounding 500 tonnes of grit a day and is starting to move its focus onto the pavements. However, I came across one blog detailing the change in the public mood during the snow which seems
