I used to be a real language purist, but have mellowed considerably and love the way that English evolves and develops. And though not everyone will like it, some of this jargon is playing a part in that evolution.

The LGA are really limited to starting the debate (and they have done this magnificently) but it’s down to the councils to really think about how they communicate – and some do come out with absolute nonsense.

Thanks for the link. I’m glad I’m not the only one.

I agree with JackP as well, many of these words are not used by local government or are only used because it’s the language that central government uses.

What are you supposed to do if you are a Beacon council? Say you are a leading light council?

Ok OK it’s only froth and why not have 24hrs of fun. But what is the LGA going to actually *do* to try to improve communication?

Sadly infrequently used. I’m also having a dig at the LGA’s list – but for a slightly different reason – councils aren’t actually using some of the words they want to ‘ban’. Unfortunately, the way this is presented gives the impression councils are using ’em, and thus they are unfairly presented.

Keep an eye out for the tweet – blog post to follow in the next hour or so…
