Interesting post. However the opposition of representative vs leadership is misleading. In fact if a “leadership” is voted in, (voters knowing his views) he/she becomes a “representative” (because then representing the views that people have voted for – or should!).

Views and experiences of other systems would demonstrate that you can have several other ways of handling a democratic election, with keeping on a strong government and leadership (preference, two-rounds…etc).

The fact is that having an overall majority while you get an overall minority of votes with a FPTP system is far from the accepted definition of representation and democracy.
